My dear boy,
Our lives are boring. It is so by design. We were not made to pursue the spectacular. Nonetheless, the spectacular is born from a collection of boring activities. As such, get comfortable doing the boring things.
As much as many biopics might want to make you believe, no one’s life is that exciting: we simply get better at telling the stories. See, one of the many perks of telling yesterday’s stories with today’s words is that you achieve an almost fantastic life laced with multiple climaxes.
I was reading the autobiography of George Müller, and many times I was tempted to drop that book. I started reading it with such gusto because of all the stories and testimonies I had heard people share about this man who stopped heaven in her tracks. I was suffering from disillusionment. See, there were days when nothing happened. He prayed, yet answers seemed to take forever to arrive, although God never came late. Then there were days that everything happened. Days when the jar of miracles flowed endlessly.
I suppose it is true what Vladimir Lenin said, “There are decades where nothing happens; and there are weeks where decades happen.” Therefore, do all you can to enjoy the “boring moments” for therein lie the highlights of our lives.
Anyway, it is not out of place that you love eating chicken eggs. Your father loves them too. In fact, your mother won his heart just by making him eggs. But ever wondered which came first- the chicken or the egg?
Love.
Dad.
