The moment you stop learning, you die – Albert Einstein.
A famous quote widely used to emphasize on how important it is that we adapt to learning something daily, whether small or big. Life is constituted by learning and the results of learning. It is from the world of learning, creation emerges.
Well, one could also say, the moment you stop creating, you die.
This was the crux of a conversation I had with a friend, weeks back. Coming out of a place where I lacked inspiration and motivation, I can tell you for a fact that a halt to creativity is also a halt to identity. I began to lose sense of what I have always known and what I stand for. Writing or creating a new post became extremely hard and then I realized. I had come to a halt. This halt, sadly, takes a downward slope and leaves you empty as the day goes by.
The earlier you realize you are slipping, the easier it is for you to bounce back. However, the later you realize you’ve gone far, the harder it becomes for you to find yourself. It’s a tale of consciousness and continuity.
Dear writer, I know it can be hard to get your creative juices coming, just to produce a masterpiece. But trust me, that unworthy piece in your head is the start of its mastery. It can’t become until you decide to begin.
Don’t think too hard about what you want to create. A poem, memoir, article, essay, script and all the different written forms. Just start. From a word to a sentence, a paragraph to a page and from pages to more pages. That’s how a piece is formed.
And yeah, you can always refine it later. It’s a process.
You lack inspiration? Write.
You’re not sure it makes sense? Just write.
Will people read it? Still write.
As Jack London says, “You can’t wait for inspiration, you have to go after it with a club.”
I’m rooting for you.
