Put the phone down

by Editor

In this era where technology seems to beckon more than human presence, the luxury of owning a device has robbed us of cherish moments. The screen gluing is alarming!

The fact that we thought it’ll bring us closer to those we love, but it seems to take us far and farther away from them.

We embraced it with open hands, anticipating the wonders of being innovative, not knowing we welcomed our revolt.

I find myself unnecessarily busy, and with what? Scrolling through the media, absorbing information that I don’t know how profitable it is to me, but I sit there still, I can’t seem to control myself.

The pinning effect of it has people glued to it for hours. Value gained? Maybe, maybe not. Time wasted? Definitely! It entices like charm, drawing one with a mysterious pull. This pull seems like it’s drawing me towards an abyss, I can’t speak for all, but the more it occurs, I feel helpless.

The algorithm is doing numbers you can not conceive. What do you expect when dumb people get access to smart phones? The sensation of a new feat. The feeling that drags them to solitude.

This term “addiction to the social media space” has severe downsides to individual, mental and physical attributes. In the name of content creation, propagandas spread, the pains never go away.

Whiling away time on this space, the rate at which we procrastinate our daily duties becomes a steady game. This media space won’t help tackle this issue. It is like hosting a visitor and when he’s gone you are left alone to clean up the mess.

It sure does make one’s life a mess. The banters, the anthems, the trends. Once you’re on the net, it’s all noise and stress.

The stress derived from isolation. Isolation caused by smart gadgets which we tend to find soothing. Souls are not even bold enough these days to confront their challenges without seeking help on the social media platforms.

It bitters me a lot that our sisters are on this space promoting immorality all in the name of pursuing fame and popularity. It cut across my intestines like a sharp pain that the masculine genders join this trends.

We see how the media promotes violence and all sort of ill manners and I can’t help but wonder why it has to be in this generation, that though we have a means of achieving great things with our powerful mind set, we instead use it to promote nonsense.

This piece will not be justifiable if we fail to highlight ways of tackling this issue. To help us cope with this addiction, since it’s at it’s peak, I strongly advice we take this following into consideration;

* Set boundaries by establishing phone-free zones and times, such as during meals or before bed.

* Engage in physical activities such as sports or exercises to reduce phone use.

* Practice critical thinking by allowing yourself to reason beyond doubt and face reality.

* Make sure to take out time to meditate and stay offline.

* I can also encourage us to try our possible best to stay away from negative trends when we see them.

* Encourage physical meetings and fellowship.

* Self meditation and accountability check to help self track performance.

Though these may be hard, it all starts with a simple step.

Start!

Don’t get attached! Shake off the trend and be you!
