Love And Magic Tricks

by Frank Clinton
Love

Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders, let me walk upon the waters…

Don’t tell me why you love me. Keep that to yourself. I don’t ever want to know. Here’s the thing, loving a person is like performing a magic trick and the best tricks are the ones you can’t explain. The mystery leaves your heart swelling with excitement and awe. Love comes with all that and I don’t want to lose it. I would want to always wonder why you love me, why you want me the way you do. Me. This me whose life though complex is one of the small individual lives littered in the cosmos.

You could be with anyone else yet you chose me. Why? Don’t answer that. I feel like King David asking God what man is that He is mindful of. Awe is good. I want that. I want to be in awe of your love always hence, don’t explain it. Leave me be in this pool of wonder and delusion…

So you look at her standing there. Such fine art capable of speaking to you, capable of reproducing after herself, and a piece with her own unique qualities: the delicate assemblage from the collective unconscious.

And I believe that’s what art does, should do- source from within, in that the supposed source matter is from within: the mind. I digress.

So, you cast your gaze on her. You like it, young king. The tease to your heart, evidence of being alive. You hope the palpitations don’t kill you. But you can’t worry for life is best enjoyed in the face of death.
