My son,
You must understand that a “participatory trophy” is not a trophy. You’re there to win, to come out on top. Be number one. Others can be whatever they want; I don’t care. But you’re there to win. I am not averse to teamwork and collaboration (I encourage it); however, when there’s a race, you know to win. The trophy that is given to everyone has no value. It is anti-reality to think that the world rewards participation. It rewards results. See, everyone is not a winner. Distinguish yourself, my boy! Apostle Paul aptly captures same when he writes, “Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.” Whatever everyone is winning at is exactly what you must not want. You’re almost 5. It’s time to take charge of your life. I shall write you more.
Love,
Dad.
